The Noble Effect
For nearly 25 years, I’ve called Fort Lauderdale my home. It’s a city alive with beauty, culture, and opportunity—but like many places, it faces challenges. One of the most pressing is its significant homeless population. As someone who has overcome personal struggles, I’ve made it my mission to be a difference-maker in every aspect of my life, especially in my community. Through my craft, my story, and my passion, I aim to change the world—one haircut at a time.
I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and later moved to the Philadelphia area with my mother and brother. My childhood was anything but stable. With no clear blueprint for life, I grew up surrounded by instability, addiction, and a lack of guidance. By the time we returned to Florida when I was nine, I was already caught in a cycle of rebellion, substance abuse, and trouble with the law.
My young adult years were spent on the streets, consumed by addiction and frequent stints in jail. At my lowest point, I realized I needed to change if I ever wanted a chance at a better life. Determined to find purpose, I worked two jobs and commuted by bus to barber school. I earned my license and began working in barbershops, but addiction continued to hold me back, robbing me of happiness and fulfillment.
Everything changed on July 7, 2013. I walked into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and made the decision to surrender fully to recovery. That day marked the beginning of a journey built on doing the next right thing, one day at a time.
Sobriety gave me a new perspective, strength, and purpose. I discovered my passion for people and my belief that everyone has a story worth sharing. In time, I was blessed to achieve a lifelong dream—opening my own barbershop, Noblemens Cut and Shave. Located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, it became more than a business; it became a platform to give back.
The Backpack Barber Foundation
Through my work, I’ve connected with many incredible people and witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by the homeless community. I’ve been in their shoes. I’ve felt the hopelessness and despair. That’s why I founded The Backpack Barber Foundation.
This initiative is rooted in empathy, respect, and action. We provide essential services and supplies—including haircuts, hygiene products, and backpacks filled with necessities—to those experiencing homelessness. Each haircut is more than a service; it’s a moment of connection, dignity, and hope.
The Backpack Barber Foundation is proof that small actions can lead to meaningful change. My goal is to inspire others to join this movement of compassion and community support. Together, we can uplift those in need and remind them—and ourselves—that change is always possible.
